Oh Hillary…

May 17, 2008 at 6:08 am (Bush, Iraq War)

(*Note: This post was originally written around a week ago and I just got around to finishing and posting it, sorry for the tardiness of the subject, but I felt it still needed to be posted.)

“I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on,” she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article “that found how Sen. Obama’s support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me.”

As if this election couldn’t be more meticulously monitored based on ethnicity, Hillary Clinton makes this winner of a statement. Of course, I’m more likely to attribute this to a case of “lack of head on tight”, however the fact remains, she related being hard-working to being white. I’m not sure what’s worse: the fact that Hillary, despite her best intentions, drew a strong parallel between which race is the most “hardworking”, or the fact that John McCain is touting the foreign policy card but continues to confuse Sunni and Shi’a. (For those who are not familiar, McCain stated that Al Qaeda was a Shi’a group.)

Will this hurt Hillary in the long run? Probably not. I think if anything sealed her fate, it was the extremely narrow margin with which she won in Indiana this week. If anything, it’ll just be another quote added to one of those nifty little tear-off calendars with a new stupid quote made by a politician each day.

All the same, she shouldn’t just expect to be able to shrug it off her statement by saying “these are the people you need to win”. Au contraire, if the news networks have proven anything in their obsession with race and exit polling, it’s that more than just one group counts, stupid. Both Latino and Black Americans are going to have a lot of impact on this election.

Of course, to add a more current note to this post, let’s have a looksie at what some of our favorite conservatives have had to say lately:

“That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He’s getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he — he dove for the floor.” – Mike Fuckabee, referring to a loud noise backstage as he presented  at the NRA convention on Friday.

^^ Yes, because considering the history of political assassinations as far back as, you know, THE BEGINNING OF TIME, this was a REALLY great statement. Calling Mike Huckabee a “douche” doesn’t even begin to cover it… For the rest of my life, Mike Huckabee shall be referred to as receptalacum testis, you know, to exemplify the ornate and diverse language and ideas he has tried to impart.

“As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American Senator declared, ‘Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this may have been avoided’. We have an obligation to call this what it is: the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.” – President Bush, in reference to the Democrat’s stance on the Iraq war.

Right… because being best friends with Saudi Arabia and allowing Prince Bandar in the White House on September 12th, 2001 after their country funded 9/11… that is so completely not appeasement. Folks, I’m beginning to think it’s time that every citizen of this fine nation should mail President Bush a dictionary. Maybe his speech writers, too.

You’re really only reached the tip of the iceberg when it comes to stupid things Bush says. My guess is that he wouldn’t be able point out Poland if presented with a map.

hah. I agree with Tom_F. As to Hilary all I can do is roll my eyes. and i think I’ll buy a dictionary, highlight the word appeasement, attach a letter with the quote and then tell bush to turn to whatever page it’s on. that might get the point across.

of course, i probably all talk, but still, it’s a good idea, so someone should do it

Ah speaking of Hillary Clinton fuck ups, did you hear how she invoked the Bobby Kennedy assassination? When asked why she was staying in the race, she pointed out that Robert Kennedy was assassinated in June. What kind of bullshit is that? I may think theres a chance Obama is going to get assassinated, you may think it, the world may think it, but she said it! Granted she didnt say it outright, but she came pretty damn close! Inexcusable? I think so.

In your last post you mentioned the possibility of a Obama/Edwards ticket. I do not think this will happen, nor do I think it would be a good idea. Edwards was the vice president nominee last year and while he may not have been soley responsible, he still helped the democrats lose in 2004. Does the party really want to take a chance and throw Edwards on the ticket? Hell, is Edwards even a good match for Obama? I don’t think so. Obama needs a person with experience to balance out his inexperience in the executive branch. Also, people are saying one of the biggest obstacles of Obama’s is going to be the Hispanic population. How do you combat both these potential problems with one person? Bill RIchardson. He his the Governor of New Mexico and served as Ambassador to the UN and Secretary of Energy under Bill Clinton. That and he is Hispanic. So, do you guys think he is a good fit?

Now that I think about it, it’s kinda different to appeasement in that the “original appeasers” were just trying to buy enough time to build up an army AND possibly even prevent war altogether, whereas Bush just can’t wait to dump his accumulated problems (and boy he has quite the collection) onto whichever unlucky sod just happens to inherit the oval office next.
As for those crazy arabs (and let’s face it, THEY ARE) what kind of message is America sending the collective crackpots inhabiting the likes of Iran and Lebanon by saying that “we will satisfy your every need, provided you happen to be sitting on considerable mineral wealth, as well as the know-how required to blow us to pieces”. An extremely fucking reassuring one, that’s what.

I’m not trying to be rude, but I notice you “bitches” focus so much on the stature of the politicians. I’d like to read important political issues going on in the world, because I honestly don’t give a pig’s testicle what Hillary said in some newspaper.
Let’s focus on gas prices and the political standpoint from there. Let’s focus on energy crises, mortgage issues, and foreign affairs.
I know you two are intelligent women, but you’re just bickering at these candidates. I also understand the point of your site is to bitch about these things, but there are a lot of fascinating ways to bitch about important issues. For instance let’s bitch about the idiotic gas plans all three nominees are supporting, let’s focus on the division of the democratic party and special interest groups preventing places like ANWR being developed for oil
Nothing you’re saying here is really of any value, because it doesn’t change the world. Come on girls, let’s hear some real bitchin’!
